Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that takes place in the popular science fiction universe created by George Lucas, and developed by BioWare (Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate), on which players can be a part of the colossal Star Wars story by being one of its characters.
At the beginning of the game, players can choose between different species and classes. In fact, the first thing a new player has to do is choose if he wants to join the forces of the Republic or of the Empire. If he chooses the path of the light, he can then choose from among different classes, such as Jedi, or Smuggler; if he decides to join the dark side he can choose to be a Sith, or a Bounty hunter.
One of the most interesting aspects of Star Wars: The Old Republic is that, unlike other games in the same genre, you can encounter a large variety of situations. It’s not all fighting creatures with the help of members from your own faction, but also finding yourself in situations in which you can drive a space ship, or in parts that are more similar to traditional adventure games.
As in all MMORPG's, players can interact with other characters from all over the world, by taking part in field battles, trading with other characters, and even talking to them to get to know other people interested in the Star Wars universe. All of this while playing in a world created by Star Wars fans, for Star Wars fans, that’s full of hints and references to great moments in the saga.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a very fun MMORPG that, in spite of mainly attracting fans of the legendary Star Wars franchise, still has enough content to hook just about anyone.
